Food, food and more food in Bangkok

Visiting Bangkok is like going back to my second home. haha. I lost counts of how many times i have been to this city since young but the friendly people, delicious and affordable food fare and awesome cheap shopping never fails to make me happy in this Land of Smiles.

Like my previous BKK travelogue entry, I will not be doing a detailed entry of my trip (i.e how to go, where tourists should go) because they have been blogged by other bloggers way too many times. haha. Instead, i will just name some of the new cafes/restaurants my friends and i explored this time round ;)

Or Tor Kor Market
How i spend my morning before Chatuchak weekend market every time i travel to Bangkok! Located at Kamphaeng Phet MRT station, you can read about this local market in my previous post but i just had to post another picture of my favourite duck beehoon soup because it's just too good to be missed!!

Coconut ice cream at Chatuchak weekend market
Like the bubble tea craze, this dessert has taken CTC market by storm. So many pushcart stalls selling various variations of this ice cream it seems over-rated. However, i'll still happily fork out my 40 baht to get some yummy ice cream topped with sweet corn and atap seeds =D

Seoul Grill at Union Mall
Union Mall is located next to Phahon Yothin MRT station (just 2 stops away from Kamphaeng Phet station which makes it logical to plan your next shopping stop here after the crazy heat at CTC market) and i love this mall because things sold here are relatively cheaper as the main shopping crowd still consists of the locals themselves. Best thing of all? This mall has everything from bubble tea shops, to Watsons, to massage parlor to restaurants!
That evening, my friends and i settled for Seoul Grill all-you-can-eat mookata-styled BBQ!! We paid 392baht for 1.5hour of non-stop eating. That's like S$16, complete with free flow drinks, ice cream and appetizers!

In case mookata is not really your cup of tea, it is actually very easy to find all-you-can-eat steamboat restaurants all over Bangkok (Coca Suki steamboat, Shabushi). Prices typically don't differ much and it's normally timed. However, 1.5hours is more than enough time to fill your tummies i'm sure =)

After You cafe (Siam Paragon)
Hunted this place down because everyone kept posting pictures of their desserts on Instagram. We were a little shocked by the crowd when we arrived at the relatively small cafe but the Q moved quickly so we got ourselves seats just after 15 minutes!!

And now i present to you the God of all desserts...*drum rolls*...
Shibuya Honey Toast
This dessert right here is just.....heavenly. Best shared among friends (well, things always taste better when shared anyway yea?), it was big in portion and really tasted as good as it looked!! Drizzled with maple syrup, the cafe also thoughtfully provided a separate small jug of maple syrup just in case it's not enough for your sweet tooth.

Strawberry Mille Crepe
Nothing to rave about, especially when this is being compared to their signature shibuya toast. If given a choice, i would have probably ordered another flavored toast instead. haha.

Roast cafe (Seenspace, Thonglor Soi 13)
For our Bangkok trip this time round, we set aside a day for cafe-hopping! Took a cab to Thonglor Soi 13 ("soi" simply means lane in thai) to kickstart our cafe-hopping adventure. First stop was brunch at Roast cafe.

Beautifully decorated, this place proves to be a popular spot among locals and tourists alike as the place was full on a Monday afternoon.

Here comes our brunch!!

I ordered Crab Cake Benedict for myself, together with a cup of iced latte. Being past champion of the National Barista Competition, their coffee was strong and sure packs a punch. The food though was rather mediocre =(

Su's egg benedicts with bacon and spinach.

I wouldn't say my visit to Roast cafe was unforgettable or particularly awesome to be honest but their swift  service and nice ambience did make a good impression.

Mrs Jones Orphanage cafe (Seenspace, Thonglor Soi 13)
Highlight of our cafe-hopping day!! I've seen a fair share of pretty cafes but Mrs Jones Orphanage blew me away with the intricate details of their furniture. The amount of effort they must have put in to create such a beautiful cafe is truly remarkable O.O

Since we were early, we managed to snag the best seats in the house. Yes, teddy bears included =P

Chocky Mud Pie, Red Velvet Cake and Scones for us. I thought the red velvet cake was the least yummy dessert out of the 3 as it lacks cocoa taste and the cream cheese frosting was a tad too sour for me.

Actually ThongLor soi 13 is just 15-20mins walk from Thong Lor BTS station but if you find the walk a little too long for you, you can always visit the Mrs Jones' Orphanage branch at Siam Square instead!

-----

Greyhound Cafe
Our final stop that day at the famous cafe at Siam Square. I had such a hard time convincing my friends to visit this place for dinner because both of them hated the food served at their Hong Kong outlet =/ Thankfully, the cheap pricing and relatively tasty food at this Bangkok branch kinda changed their perception of this franchise restaurant by a little that night. hee.

Their fried chicken wings which seems to be on everyone's must-order list!!

-----

Snacks/tidbits-shopping at Big C Supermarket
This is an activity i always enjoying doing in Bangkok!! If you stay within Pratunam area like i did, the nearest supermarket would be Big C, located right opposite Central World mall.

Things we grabbed off the shelves that day: Mama thai cup noodles, Lays potato chips in the weirdest flavors and everyone's favorite Tao Kae Noi seaweed snacks!!!

That wraps up yet another travelogue entry on yventuallymine =) And may you guys have a fruitful trip to Bangkok if you are heading there any time soon too!!

Until next time~
