A visit to Tim Ho Wan, Plaza Singapura finally took place last weekend as I was persuaded by theBF to join the long Q outside this one Michelin star dimsum restaurant after our weekly gym session together. haha. I'm never a fan of queuing to be honest =/
Seats provided outside the restaurant while we queued. Hurrays.
A look at their menu. Click to see the pics in original, readable size ;)
After 40minutes of waiting, we finally got in!! Like the branch in Mongkok, HK, we had to share the 4-seat table with other customers so if you are not fond of sharing and having people overhear everything you say, maybe do consider coming in groups of 4/6? At least you will probably be given a table to yourselves =)
Food was served at lightning speed to fill our hungry tummies. Thumbs up for that!
Baked Buns with BBQ Pork
A Tim Ho Wan specialty and basically that's the dish everyone orders at this place. haha. TheBF love the sweet BBQ pork filling while im a fan of the crispy and well-baked buns. All's good all's good ;)
Pan Fried Carrot Cake
Like the one i tasted in the original Tim Ho Wan outlet in Hong Kong, the carrot cake was delish! You can literally taste the chopped radish bits when you bite into this piping hot dish. Listed as on of THW's "Big 4 Heavenly Kings", you can't miss this.
Congee with Lean Pork, Century Egg and Salted Egg
One of the more disappointing dish we ordered because we both felt it was quite bland. Unless you have a major craving for porridge, i would say this can be skipped.
Pork Rib with Black Bean Sauce
Was looking forward to my steamed spare ribs as it's a must-order dimsum item whenever i eat dimsum but their pork ribs had a strong pork taste which was not exactly how i like my dish =(
Prawn Dumpling
My least favorite dimsum that day. The skin was thick which spoils the overall texture of the dumplings but i have to say the prawns used were fresh and succulent. Oh wells.
Pork Dumpling with Prawn (Siew Mai)
The succulent prawns and tender pork were a great mix for this dumpling. Definitely prefer this to the har gao! =)
Vermicelli Roll (Chee Cheong Fun) with Shrimp
Smooth vermicelli roll with crunchy shrimps! Me likey!
Tonic Medlar and Osmanthus Cake/Jelly
I had this at THW Hong Kong and it was really delicious so we decided to order this again. As compared to the Hong Kong version, the ones served to us that day were sweeter and stronger in flavor perhaps to suit the taste buds of us Singaporeans =) Still pretty delicious i would say.
In conclusion, there are hits and misses during my visit to Tim Ho Wan. While some of the items did not live up to expectations, there are still many items on the menu that i have not tried so maybe when it starts to open its other outlets by the end of the year and with lesser crowd, i'll probably pop by again for some dim sum goodness =)
What i wore that day:
Talia eyelet romper: TheVelvetDolls
Necklace: T&Co
Olivia satchel in Mint: Yventually
Kitten Flats: Far East Plaza
