We set off from our hostel bright and early on day two because we are heading out of Seoul to Damyang for some sightseeing! =)
Got our bus tickets at the Express Bus Terminal. For those who don't know speak/read Korean, i think purchasing tickets would be a huge problem, especially when most of the staff at the station don't speak much English =/ Actually, travelling out of Seoul is a big problem for non-Korean-speakers in my honest opinion.
And we are finally ready to set off!! =) Bought the deluxe bus tickets so that we can have more comfy seats for our 3hour bus ride. Turns out, this is the best decision we have ever made!! haha.
The snack i found at one of the pit stops! Made on the spot so they were piping hot. Perfect because i was freeeeezing.
Red bean paste with walnut bits!! =)
We took another public bus from Gwangju Bus Terminal in Damyang to the Bamboo Park aftewhich. P.S. my butt was already hurting then -__-
Bamboo Park, as its name states, is filled with BAMBOO! Duh! haha. Air felt especially clean and fresh there because of the large number of trees found in the park. Away from all the 2nd hand smoke i've been smelling all day!! (most, if not all, Korean men smoke)
Lunch was then settled at this random restaurant right outside the park!
We had such a spread once again! =) Given that we only ordered a 3-person share, i'll did say it's pretty affordable.
The highlight of lunch?
BAMBOO RICE
TTEOKGALBI
(Marinated beef dish, usually served in Korean Royal Court)
These 2 dishes are must-trys when you visit Damyang ;) Not commonly seen elsewhere in Korea!
Then, we took a cab to the other part of Damyang - Samjicheon Village, aka Slow City.
As mentioned in the Korean tourism website, a slow city is characterised as a city that "should have no more than 50,000 residents, should have local specialties that are made in the old way, without using machinery, and the city’s traditional heritage should be well-preserved. The town should have no fast food stores or large discount stores, and genuine local dishes should be available."
For city dwellers like us, being in Samjicheon Village is a whole new experience =) Everything's so...slow. haha. Everyone's relaxed and the main transportation seems to be the bicycle. Sometimes i actually felt i was walking a little too fast for the villagers to catch up, if you know what i meant.
The trip back from Damyang to Seoul was a horrible and torturous one. We were caught in a jam halfway through our journey so a 3hr ride became 6hr. S.I.X P.A.I.N.F.U.L H.O.U.R.S
(yea, i meant my butt)
Thank gdness for the 24hr Beef Soup restaurant right beside our hostel that we finally got some dinner at 1am in the morning =(
What a day, what a day!
Ok, that sums up my 2nd day in Korea =)
