Some weeks ago, a few readers were asking me if i can provide them with my Bangkok itinerary. Unfortunately, lazy me has never prepared an itinerary whenever I travel to Bangkok because i always end up at the usual few places (Chatuchak, Platinum Mall, Night street market along Siam Square, Union Mall). Besides, there are many travelogue entries available on the blogosphere that can be easily "googled". haha.
Hence, i decided to do a more unique travelogue entry on Bangkok this time round, focusing on 2 places that are easily accessible from the popular places of interest but not commonly known among tourists.
(1) Or-Tor-Kor Talat (Or Tor Kor Market)
My mum found this wet market near Chatuchak on one of our trips last year and it became our must-go place for brunch before heading over to the nearby Chatuchak. Although it is known as a "market", the compound is actually extremely clean with rows and rows of food stalls selling from local Thai goodies to cooked food like pad thai and grilled chicken.
2 of my brother's favorite stalls at Or Tor Kor, aligned right next to each other.
The roasted pork stall (left) has one of the best roasted pork i've tasted while the puny coffee stall sells iced cappuccino and mocha that packs a punch ;)
Recommended by my mum, this duck noodle store is one of my favourites too! Tender duck meat with bee hoon. YUMS. If you are more adventurous, request for the duck blood cubes like i did! =P
Seafood lovers can also opt for their cheap grilled prawns and crabs!
Directions: Or Tor Kor is a 5 minutes walk away from Chatuchak weekend market itself. Alternatively, you can take their MRT train (note: not their BTS skytrain) to Kamphaeng Phet MRT station. I would suggest you to travel to Or Tor Kor for breakfast/brunch over the weekend, then head over to Chatuchak to shop since the latter can be easily seen from the wet market itself. For those who normally travel to Chatuchak via BTS skytrain (Mo Chit station), make Or Tor Kor your late lunch destination then ;)

(2) Ban Khun Mae restaurant
458/6-9 Siam Square Soi 8, Rama 1 Road,
Patumwan District, Bangkok 10330
Found this restaurant through online reviews and glad it did not disappoint. Its proximity to Siam BTS station also made it an excellent dinner place, not forgetting how Mango Tango dessert place is situated just right opposite. hehe.
Whether you are going in big groups or just a couple, I would think their set menus for 2 is simply perfect for those who want to taste multiple thai dishes at one go.
They have 3 set menu choices to pick from and each menu consists of 6 dishes each but in smaller portions like these:
Some of the other dishes we ordered previously:
Crab meat fried rice
Tom Yum Goong
Directions: Alight at Siam BTS station and exit via EXIT 4. Look for Soi/Lane 5 (an alley perpendicular to the main road) and walk straight all the way till you see the green restaurant signboard.
Hope this entry will help those travelling to Bangkok soon and until next time~~~
Sawadeekha, leew phop khan may!
