YL had set aside 2 days for dimsum in Hong Kong because she insisted we had to experience 2 very different dim sum culture in the country. While Tim Ho Wan is your usual "order your food and wait for them to arrive"-kinda restaurant, Li Heung Tea House 莲香楼 is a totally different concept!
Very traditional-looking outlook =)
Once you enter, you are being greeted by this scene - Many random Hongkongers (most elderly) with newspaper on one hand and tea cup on the other! haha. You are suppose to look for your own seats and with the restaurant being so crowded, it thus meant you will end up sharing your table with complete strangers.
Everything might seem peaceful at first, but once their staff start walking out of the kitchen with trolleys of dim-sum, CHAOS STARTS. You see people standing up with their dim-sum cards, rushing to the trolley and began picking their share of dim-sum. It is really quite an eye-opener but sadly, it was the tourists who ended up cutting Qs, snatching the last tray of dim-sums and what not. The ugly side of tourists i must say =( I was even scalded by the hot water dripping down from the bamboo steamer because this lady was sooooo anxious to grab that very last bun from the trolley. THAT, really spoilt my morning. NEED TO BE SO GAN CHIONG DE MEHHHHH?! oh wells.
Unhappy stuff apart, pics of the dim-sum we managed to get our hands on! =)
Their Egg Custard buns 流沙包 are really famous so we were so excited when we saw these on the trolley! Turns out, they were PEANUT BUNS!!! T.T lol
Another of their specialty - Lotus paste bun with egg yolk 莲容蛋黄包. Like YL described, Mooncake Festival came early! hahaha.
My favorite pork ribs!!
We stayed a whole 3 hours at 莲香楼, hoping that the egg custard buns will come out but they didn't =( We knew it was time to leave when they started serving LUNCH. hahaha.
Next destination - Avenue of Stars 星光大道, walking distance away from East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station.
This place was scorching hot when we arrived and i was boredddddd toooooo deathhhhh. I was expecting something interesting like the Madame Tussaud's wax museum with all the handprints of the famous HK artistes. Sure, there were handprints on the floor from one end to another but that was it. YAWNS.
Spent the afternoon at Esprit Flagship store at Tsim Tsa Tsui, along Peking/Ashley Road to hide from the horrible Sun!!! haha. Not a fan of Esprit so i was just sitting around and enjoying the air-con while YL pick umbrellas for her mum. HAHAHA.
Tsui Wah 翠华 restaurant for late lunch!! See i told you, Tsui Wah is available at all hours, at all locations, have all food you need. haha.
鱼蛋河粉 Fish Ball Kway Teow
干捞虾面 Dried Shrimp Noodles
Came with the exact crushed shrimp bits we had in Macau and a good change from the usual noodle soup ;)
I think we were simply roaming around Tsim Tsa Tsui for the whole afternoon because i realise the next pictures i took after lunch was...DINNER. HAHAHAA. Seriously, this trip has proven what gluttons we were =/
Dinner was nothing to rave about as we settled for a set meal at a restaurant near our hotel.
Preserved plum with 7-up! SUPER YUMMY =)
And ending our night with BEER ICE POPSICLE! We bought a cheap popsicle making set at the mall and poured Heineken beer in! hehehe. Cheap thrill in the hotel room =D
That's all for today! Until next time~
