Restaurant Hop: Baghdad Street

And like all entries that i have been posting on this blog recently, i have to say this is yet another overdue entry. haha. But hey, good food is meant to be shared, late or not right? ;)

The foodie leader of our clique Mich suggested Sushi Airways at 20 Baghdad Street so off we went!

Situated on the 2nd level, so keep your eyes peeled for this staircase on your right when you turn in from Arab Street!

An all-silver airplane themed restaurant, the place is rather small, much to our surprise!

The super cute "boarding pass" on our table =D

As 3 out of 5 of us don't take sashimi (that includes me >.<), we decided to order their maki rolls and other side dishes for sharing so we can try more dishes that evening!

First up, Lobster Mango Roll
Bonito-flavored rice roll topped with fresh mango and lobster salad. The sweet mango slice and savory lobster salad was a pretty good mix and every one of us enjoyed this very first dish served that evening =) The chef added ginger slice to each maki roll which took us by surprise. Thankfully, it was still acceptable even though i might not be a fan of ginger.

Tori-Kara-age
This wasn't our initial choice but they ran out of soft-shell crabs that day so all platters/dishes that consisted of crabs were not available =( The fried chicken bites were not too bad actually, but nothing much to rave about in my opinion.

Kurobuta (Black pig) Katsu
If you have eaten the black pig katsu from Tampopo Japanese Restaurant, then this katsu dish is obviously not going to be good enough. haha.

Unagi with Tamago Roll
Another clear winner among the dishes we ordered that evening! We love the unagi mixed with shredded sweet radish and avocado and thumbs up to Sushi Airways once again for using bonito-flavored rice instead of plain Japanese rice as it really adds dimension to the maki roll!

Kani Mentai Cheese Maki
As we were still hungry after eating the above dishes, we decided to order a third maki roll for sharing. This took a longggg time to arrive and we were a little skeptical if we still wanted this dish if we had to continue waiting. Thankfully, when the rice rolls finally came, they certainly did not disappoint!! The crab meat came with baked cheese and mentai and every bite was just heavenly. It reminded me of the Shiok Maki i had at Koh Grill and Sushi and some of the girls even felt this tasted better than the former.

Ended our dinner with some sweet tofu dessert, courtesy of the restaurant for waiting so long for our food. hehe.

As it was drizzling by the time we left Sushi Airways, we decided to seek shelter at a nearby cafe right opp the restaurant and also to get some coffee to continue our girly chats =)

La Marelle cafe,
25A Baghdad Street

Aww, pink stairways?! Too good to be true. haha.

Greeted by colorful walls and cutesy drawings on all the walls of the cafe. This place is so cheery, instant mood lifter!

Carrot Cake
I don't really remember how the cake tasted like so it probably meant it is quite mediocre? hahaha.

Kueh Lapis
We were drawn by the colorful layers but it really just tasted like your usual kueh lapis. kekeke. Still pretty tasty though ;)

Banana Cake with Caramelised Bananas
This would be the highlight of our desserts that night. The boss of LM cafe gave us the very last slice of banana cake for the day which happened to be hugeeeeeee. haha. Moist and not overly sweet, this has to be one of the more delicious banana cake i've had in years! Oh oh and those caramelised bananas....oooohhhhmmmmyyyyygggaaawwwddd. Ok, enough said. haha.

A table full of sweets...a night filled with girly laughter =)

Until next time~
