Day 2 in Penang started with International breakfast buffet at the hotel! Place's crowded by 9am and they had a pretty extended menu but more food variety is not equivalent to food quality. You know what i mean ;) haha.
Lift took soooooo long to come, given that there are only 3 lifts in the hotel serving 35 floors :/ So we ended up taking funny pics of us. haha.
Hailed 2 cabs to our first destination of the day!
Oh, the small sign on the taxi says "This is a metered taxi. Haggling is prohibited." Well, first thing you settle before you enter the cab is to fix a price with the cab uncle. Talk about irony of life. haha.
PENANG HILL, here we come!
Waiting for the monorail to make our way to the top of the hill...
Once you reach the top of the Penang Hill, you will be greeted by a cool breeze, very much missed at the bottom of the hill. haha.
There was a snake show going on at the stage area and guess what, the 2 kiddos wana take pic with the giant snake. They wanted to drag me along with them but HELL NO. I WILL FAINT. haha.
Bravest family i know! =P
More random pictures of the different temples/mosque at Penang Hill...
And a small Ginger garden perfect for families.
After we descended from the hill, we hailed another cab to Kek Lok Si Temple for destination no. 2!
Kek Lok Si Temple is supposedly the largest temple in Malaysia, with the famous bronze status of Kuan Yin at the top of the attraction =)
The giant Kuan Yin statue!
It is surrounded by stone statues of the 12 zodiac signs so i jumped at the opportunity to take with mine!!! It's a tourist thing, ya know. hehehe.
Lunch finally happened at a nearby coffeeshop and i was immediately drawn to this:
DURIAN COFFEE?!?!?!
Er ge ordered a cup for himself and we all got a chance to try this really weird concoction. haha. Thank goodness the durian taste was subtle!
As for me?
PENANG WHITE COFFEE yums.
Penang Char Kway Teow!
It tasted very much like Pad Thay surprisingly! Unlike Sin's version which is mainly sweet due to the black sauce, Penang's version is towards the salty side =)
Penang Asam Laksa
REALLY spicy and sour at the same time. Mackerel soup-based, the laksa comes with flaked fish, asam and thick vermicelli. Mix the shrimp paste (hae ko) in and it's a yummylicious bowl of lunch.
We actually spent the early evening in the hotel because the kiddos were tired but the adults and i went to Gurney Drive for a quick dinner and bought supper back to the hotel.
Introducing...
Penang Fruit Rojak!!
You can find mango, jambu, guava, crispy deep fried youtiao and cuttlefish topped with thick sweet sauce containing shrimp paste (again!!) This was SOOOOO good. New found love for this dish =)
Ok, 30mins before our Xmas Collection on Yventually so Im ending my day 2 entry of Penang. Tonsssss of birthday dinners/gatherings to attend this week ahead but soooo excited to turn 23 (finally).
Ok until next time!!
