Sunday brunch.

I haven't had Sunday brunch for some time (i blame it on my comfy bed and pillows. hehe) so I met up with my Sunday brunch partners 2 weeks before my dear girlfriend's solemnization reception for a girly gathering before she officially become a Mrs Chia. haha.

Our choice of cafe that day? Artichoke cafe, at Sculpture Square (Middle Road)

They had both outdoor and indoor seats so we requested to be moved indoors to avoid the heat.

Our drinks for the day! From tea to juices to coffee, i think the variety of drinks we ordered that day really showed how different the 4 of us are. haha.

With recommendation by their staff to share our food instead of ordering 4 standard main courses because portions are relatively big, we ended up with 3 dishes for brunch that day. And were they right about the generosity of food portions! The brunch dishes here are slightly different from the rest of the cafes we have been to as Artichoke serves modern Middle-Eastern cuisine so it got us really excited ;) Not your usual "can i have an egg Benedict" kind of cafe!

Brunch Mezze
This was written on their chalkboard menu so we figured it had to be special! I love my Za'atar toast dipped in the chickpea and sesame humus (oh yum yum yum). Eaten together the smoked salmon slices with sumac dressing, it was taste-buds-tantalising good! Also on the table is the Moroccan crab mayo and beetroot tzatziki!

Habibi meal
Lebanese-style chicken wings with carrot and almond salad and fries. The coriander zhoug sauce (green one) brought out the flavor of the chicken well but in comparison to the other 2 dishes we had, this pale in comparison since there's nothing too special for us to rave about.

Bacon and Sweet Potato Hash
I just realised the sweet potato hash and chili maple bacon are both hidden under the fried egg in my pictures! Oppps. haha. They were both delicious but i remembered the bacon chunks (nope, not your usual bacon streaks!) being a tad salty to be eaten alone but it tasted awesome with the Turkish toast and rocket vege!!

We have not finished our drinks before we were told at the very last minute that the table we were seated had to be cleared 20 mins earlier than we were initially told and i got a little upset because the waiter just came to our table with the bill and wanted us to make payment and move to the outdoor seats if we want to continue our meal without any prior reminder/warning. They were not rude, but i was expecting better service than that coming from a pretty popular eatery like them and as much as i am willing to change table, i don't think shoving the bill in my face and insisting that we pay first is acceptable (i am in flats that day does not mean i will run away without paying ya?) Hence, we moved reluctantly to the outdoor table, which unfortunately for us, is right under the hot sun and right at their entrance.
However, this incident caught the attention of the manager of Artichoke who came over to ask if there was anything we would like to feedback as he was aware we were a little upset with the lack of service. It was a nice gesture, given that we did not show our displease nor did we complain. He simply felt that was a need to come over to make sure his customers are happy and right the wrong as he was confused why we ended up sitting right under the sun. I was impressed because i was really about to leave the cafe with a bad taste in my mouth and i must say the fact that he came over to explain and apologise showed his sincerity =) With that, i give a thumbs up to this new cafe i tried that Sunday and hope there are more chances for me to dine there as they did serve some delicious fares that noon.

Oh, here's my girlfriends in the midst of their garden. HAHAHA.
