10 Things i Love/Hate about Bangkok

Im back from Bangkok!! 2nd time in 2 months, it's so frequent but i love it =) Doubt i will get to travel till my Korea trip in May so here's 10 reasons what i love/hate about Bangkok this time round!!!!

01. CHA YEN Thai Iced Milk Tea
This is top on my list and easily found at any street stalls/food centre in BKK. i drank at least 2 cups of this EVERYDAY, all thanks to the tons of beverage streetstalls near my budget hotel! lol.

02. Accessories that are TOO CUTE to resist
I always end up buying a whole lot of accessories from BKK because they are not only cheap (Less than S$10) but totally adorable!
Tip: Get them from Chatuchak or Chinatown instead of the over-rated Platinum Mall becausethey are much cheaper at the former!

My cupcake necklace is DOPEEEEEE =)

03. Affordable Restaurant Food
Tried Baiyoke Sky hotel's buffet breakfast on our 2nd day there and was quite taken back by the number of food choices they had! Indian, Japanese, Western, Thai..and the list goes on...

My cool view from the restaurant!

Went back to Baiyoke Sky Crystal Grill restaurant in the evening for their grilled meat buffet! As my aunt and mum stayed in the hotel for their first night in BKK (bro n i bunked in at a nearby budget hotel because free wifi is too impt for us both. HAHA.), we g0t 50% off the bill ;)

Sirloin steak ftw!

Had one of our lunches at a Japanese restaurant in Platinum Mall which costed only around S$10 per person?

04. Abundance of extremely skillful manicurists (or imo, ARTISTS)
I have never seen such efficient manicurists in my life and when i say they are artists in their own field, i mean it!

Check out my nail design! Every heart is patiently PAINTED ON, not stick-ons ;)

And my "tuxedo"-inspired toe nails! teehee.

05. Street Food
They have the most delicious fried chicken drumstick and grilled fish, most authentic TomYum Goong, Pad Thai......enough said.

06. Nail Polish!!
The crackle/shatter nail polish craze hit BKK too!! So many cosmetic shops carry various local brands so i got a few to try out! They only costed around $6-$8 and come in SO MANY colors.

Couldn't resist the cute nail polish bottles below and bought a little too many =X They reminded me so much of Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B perfume bottles, no?

07. Air Pollution
This has got to be the ONLY thing i hate about BKK. i doubt this has improved over the years and this very fact made me appreciate the fresh air in Singapore so much more.

08. Thai people's graciousness
The traffic in Thailand might be horrendous, Thai drivers are the most gracious bunch of people i've met. Have you seen cars travelling in OPPOSITE directions on a one-way road? Well, it's a common sight in BKK but you will never hear any honking/shouting because the cars give way to each other and the nearby street vendors would signal to the drivers to make sure everyone gets to their destination safely. This is practically non-existent in our country -__- hahaha

09. Shopping!!!
I don't think there is a need for me to blog about the usual shopping areas since they are so "overly-blogged about" online =X Oh, Platinum Mall has expanded if you haven't been there for a while!! Platinum Mall 2 is situated right beside the original Platinum Mall ;)

If you want an alternative shopping route, check out CHINATOWN aka Sampeng in the early noon where it's being transformed into a wholesale district selling everything from soft toys to bags to stationery to accessories!

10. FREE wifi in my budget hotel
Stayed at Citin Pratunam that is right smacked within Pratunam (Shopping!!) and surrounded by endless food stalls (Supper!!) Best of all? FREE wifi throughout my entire trip! Even high-end hotels like Baiyoke Sky don't provide free wifi so it was a really good deal for me and my bro to bunk in one of their suites that only cost us ~S$50 per night =) I was on Twitter/Facebook/Ebuddy every night! =)

Okie dokie, that about sums up my 4D3N BKK trip this time round!

Until next time~

My latest buy!!

Rumi Neely wore it. There, i came up with the BEST excuse why i paid $80 for a pair of wedges. =)

Now now, she's seen here in her D&G slingback suede wedges (US$800 thereabout), looking chic and trendy:

Ok, her long slender legs was a plus point that adds on to the awesomeness of this pair of wedges but you can't deny the "V-shaped" cut-out design did the trick of lengthening her legs too!!

That's the main reason why i fell in love with this pair of wedges after seeing it in the stores. This, of course, is an inspired piece which i paid 1/10 of the actual amount for! haha.

And matching it with my outfit the very next day when i left to meet the girls for dinner...

Love how the cut makes my legs look slimmer and longer! *prancing around*

The exorbitant amount of money spent totally justified. haha. Now im considering if there's a market for an inspired piece at Yventually as well!! =X Would be perfect if we have it in Nude or Charcoal Grey or Nude Pink no? hmmmmm..

Until next time~

Turkish Delight

Was browsing through my photo albums and suddenly dawned upon me that i did not blog about my delightful dinner at Turkish Cuisine, Suntec City!

Before that, let me intro you my coffee partners for that day while waiting for SH to arrive after her tuition session.

Mr i-went-to-Dublin-for-exchange-and-lost-10kg Sam and Ms i-think-i-am-very-taitai-with-sunnies Nisha. Lol. Sam lost 10kg after a 6-months exchange in a western country. Like HOW sia. I've never heard of people losing weight in a country that serves pasta/bread everyday -__-" Dublin, anyone? haha.

Turkish Cuisine is this small cafe on the 3rd floor of Suntec City, right beside Kuishinbo ;)

Despite its simple and plain cafe outlook, the cafe is surprisingly attentive to their food display! Sam was the only who ordered the beef King's Kepap while the rest of us stuck to good'ol grilled chicken dishes! I like how everything was displayed nicely on the plates =)

I've got to say, the grilled chicken meat cubes were really SUCCULENT!! Everyone was busy trying out each other's food because we kept saying "try mine! Mine's good!" to one another LOL.

We didn't want to order desserts initially but the boss was really persistent in asking us to try their desserts. He is SO persuasive it's freaky, i swear! =X We gave in in the end and ordered a share of KUNEFE which he highly recommended. Before he left the table with our dessert order, he even remarked "one portion? are you sure it's enough? dun end up fighting with each other you know" -___-"

Turns out, THE DESSERT WAS THE BOMB. It's actually hand-prepared shredded wheat flakes topped with unsalted cheese with honey syrup. If you love cheese, you will love this =D

And guess wad, we did end up fighting with each other for it. HAHAHA.

Just when we called for bill, we got a small cup of complimentary red tea from the cafe =) Naiseeee.

The night ended with us EATING AGAIN. hahahaha. SH suggested Red Mango Yoghurt store at Esplanade Link so we each got ourselves the $5 muesli yoghurt special that includes 2 cereal types and 1 fruit of our choice.

What did we talked about the whole night? Too horny to be revealed here. HAHAHAHA. I think Sam is the only guy that can tolerate our nonsense. lol.

Until next time~

Shattered.

From what i've heard, there has been a massive shortage of O.P.I Black Shatter worldwide which is why my nail polish spree got postponed once agn T.T

Well, the good news is, while window-shopping at Far East Plaza yesterday, i chanced upon a random manicure shop that stores both Burlesque's Show It & Glow It (which is now OOS at the spree site as well) and Katy Perry's Black Shatter!!!!!! Bought it immediately even though it costed me $18, $7 more than the one i paid for earlier on. Definitely an impulse buy -__-"

Anyhows, spent close to 2 hours testing out the "shatter" effect. Albeit public's belief that this top coat is really easy to use, I had a hard time perfecting the skill of applying an adequate amount of the Black Shatter top coat to make sure the "shatter" effect can be seen.

What i started with...

And the end results..

The shatter effect is prettier on my right hand as compared to the left right? =( I have no idea why but here are some tips based on my experience:
(1) Make sure ur base coat is COMPLETELY dry before you apply Black Shatter.
(2) Use one THICK coat of Black Shatter to go over your nails to get the best effect
(3) Black Shatter dries REALLY fast, so act quick!
(4) Without the use of a normal topcoat, your end result would be MATT-looking nails. Hence, i painted a thin coat of topcoat over my nails to get that glossy effect.

I didnt apply the Black Shatter on some of my finger nails deliberately because 10 "shattered" nails made me look really punkish while i wanted an edgy feel instead! =)

I'm gona spend a few more days experimenting with my new nail polish and hopefully there will be more pretty "shattered" nails blogpost in the future. hehehe.

On a sidenote, i have a meeting with the Professor on Thurs. Do you tink my nails are too wild? =X

Until next time~

Will you be my penguin?

NUS School of Science looked different today, in a romantic way as the science club members decorated the area outside one of the lecture halls by setting up stalls selling handmade cards, pastries and flowers in preparation for Valentine's Day =)

Even the stairs were decorated in the most creative way! Check it out:

Lyrics from "Lucky" Awwwwwww~

Nisha got a muffin from one of the stalls and with it came a slip of paper that says "Be My Penguin?" and we were both like "HUH? Penguin? Sounds...weird"

A quick "google" about the meaning of this phrase and we quickly realised this question could be one of the most romantic/adorable way to express your love!

Now isn't it romantic?! I have no idea penguins are such loyal animals! haha.

So now you know, this coming Vday, look into your partner's eyes and ask him/her "Will you be my penguin?" It's gona melt a lot of girls' hearts for sure!

Until next time!

Gong Xi Fatt Choy!

My Lunar New Year, summarized in pictures!

Pre-CNY

Brought Nisha to Chinatown to indulge in CNY spirits! =)

Check out my "i got no money" face. haha. Had to resort to borrowing money from SH to buy that yummy tub of peanut balls in the end. It was so delicious i HAD to buy them!!

CNY Reunion Dinner

Had all my paternal uncles and aunts over at my aunt's place next door for reunion dinner!

Introducing my family's very own version of Yu Sheng. Well, technically, it's not 鱼生 since we didnt add in any fish. I would call it...水果拼盘! Instead of the usual ingredients, we added different kinds of fruits like honeydew, guava, passionfruit and even longans! The only non-fruit ingredients would be abalone? A refreshing appetiser and the combination of the sweet fruits and sour mandarin orange sauce was fantastic! What a way to start off our reunion dinner indeed!

Mum's fake shark fins soup is THE bomb =) i had 3 full bowls that evening. Slurps*

大年初一

Everyone laughed at my DIY New Yr deco on facebook -__-" I know..the "2" is slanted yada yada...At least i tried. lol.

Oh, and i found 2 new models for Yventually!

Megan and Chloe carrying Yventually's Cammy Chanel-inspired bag ;) Cuteness much?

大年初二

I look more formal on the 2nd day simply because the dress that i was donning was SUPPOSEDLY for the first day until Mum disapprove it because of its color =( It's NAVY, not black. Sigh.

My little cousin is gonna be taller than me. Soon. At the age of 12. FML -__-

大年初三

The entire maternal family at my house for some Lou Hei, Ban Luck and snacking!

My parents prepare an angbao lucky pick every year and everyone in the family gets to pick an angbao. Little cousins, adults and maids alike! My dad, being the most senior in the house that day, got to pick last and he was all "i still must pick ah! I prepared those angbaos, don't you know?" LOL.

Day ended with dinner at Hua Yu Wee - CRAB FEAST!!!!!!! Deep fried buns dipped in chilli crab sauce are yummylicious =D

大年初四

Visited Alex's sis pad at Toa Payoh. The apartment was gorgeous and did i mention the view from the gym rocks?

Alrighty, that's all for now~

Oh, and Yventually just launched!!!!!!!! =)

I wan all of these....

It's day 2 of the Rabbit year and i hope you all are enjoying yourselves, collecting angbaos and binging on pineapple tarts and whatnot because i sure am! haha. Decided to do some blogging because i just had to share this here!

Got recommended to this nail polish spree site (wowprettynails.blogspot.com) by Suz sometime ago. I am not a fanatic of nail polishes and being a poor student who refuses to spend a bomb on such items (yah la, stingy la. HAHA), my nail polish shopping is mainly done at Faceshop where the bottles are super cheap and affordable.

However, when i saw the OPI review done by Dweam.com, i fell in love with the Katy Perry OPI collection!! Here the few colors the collection featured:

I jumped onto the spree wagon and ordered the last 2 colors - Teenage Dream & Black Shatter Top Coat! S$11 each, which is considered cheap as shops in FEP were selling them at around $18? Good deal!!

I can't wait to try out the topcoat because it's said to create cracked/leopard prints look as featured below:

SO COOL eh!! =)

However, my items didn't arrive on time for CNY because it was a pre-order, unlike the other polishes found in the spree so my orders were combined with the next spree that opened. Guess what? While waiting for my 2 nail polishes, i got tempted to get yet another OPI nail polish!! -___-"

This time round, it was OPI Burlesque's Show It & Glow It, a fuschia glitter that would be puuuuurrrrfect for glitter tip/gradient nails! I can't draw a straight french tip for nuts so this bottle is a definite must-buy. i know, excuses. =P

See how shimmery the nail polish is?

The boss of WPN managed to squeeze my order in after i paid so im anticipating the arrival of my nail polishes!! *excited*

Oh, did i mention Sephora by OPI is also launching a GLEE collection as well? It's GLEEEEEEE. And im a Gleek. So that gives me all the reasons to buy one more nail polish...right? =X

Only one swatch caught my eye - Mercedes's Hell to the No.

Why-so-pretty, you tell me?! =(

*No, i will be not be tempted. No, i only have 10 fingernails/toenails. No, i am a poor student*

Ok, that's all for tonight!!

Until next time~
p.s. im not doing any advertising here. Besides, i still have yet collected my nail polishes from the spree i joined so i have no right to comment on the reliability of the shop etc etc =)
