"If music be the food of love, play on" -William Shakespeare

For the past few years, the only music-related concerts i've attended were those Twin performed in. And for the exact same years, YL, CL and i are always left awed at how much time Twin has devoted to the local music scene! I mean, she is a yr 4 Hons student now and let's just say no one would deny how insanely packed school schedule can be at this point of NUS's school life.

So it was
主流一派's music appreciation mini concert the previous time but this time round, we attended Heartbeat Percussion band's 21st Anniversary Concert at NTUC Auditorium!!

Concert started with Twin's short solo performance!

They had this special arrangement for special performers/guest conductors to come down from their seat in the audience when it's their time to perform so you get all these students screaming and cheering as they make their way down the aisle and onto the stage like some popstars! haha.

One of my favorite part of the concert would be when the chief conductor of Heartbeat invited some of the "legendary" percussion band members on stage where they performed a series of musical numbers. Everyone was so at ease on stage, looking like they were truly enjoying themselves and immersing in the music they were creating. =) What a sight!

And with such phenomenal performance comes....

A standing ovation!

Then, one of the band members brought out a group of kids and they began joining the rest of the band on stage for a short performance! So adorableeeeee =)

Throughout the whole concert, we were encouraged to snap our fingers, clap, tap our feet to the music because the chief conductor stressed (over and over again on stage) that this concert was meant to be an interactive one so instead of having the band performed for us, audience are suppose to perform WITH them.

But never did we expect the band to prepare musical instruments for us so we could really perform WITH them!!

Everyone had a different percussion instrument and it was one helluva fun!! Awesomeness!! =)

Instead of a long and draggy concert, this performance turned out to be light-hearted and well, totally memorable! =) Can't wait for the next one already!! haha.

Until next time~

The day we lost our voices

I've been known as "the girl who refuses to go ktv" among my different groups of friends for years and while i enjoy dancing, singing is seriously not the kind of art im good in!! i have concluded i am tone-deaf because everytime i try to sing, the tune that comes out of my mouth just sounded...weird =X

But anyway, i got persuaded to go to Teo Heng KTV with the girls that day after they tempted me with Katong laksa/Awfully Chocolate for dinner after the singing session. HAHAHA.

We paid $6 each for 3 hours of singing! The room was reallllllyyyyyy small but it was just us 4 so it wasn't too squeezy.

We sang everything from Raine Yang's hits to Ah Mei to Lady Antabellum (Yes, they had "Need You Now" So updated right!) but the highlight of that session got to be 草蜢's 宝贝对不起 and 爱不怕!! We were like dancing to the music and screaming "爱,不怕!!!!!" for 5 minutes straight. HAHAHA.

Dinner at the famous 328 Katong Laksa stall!!

And then we walked down the lane and reached our dessert destination - Awfully Chocolate! What can i say? Sinful desserts ftw =)

P.S. There shld be a mrt station at Katong or something because my trip home was one troublesome one =X
Until next time!!!

The route to vanity...comes with a price.

This afternoon, i bidded goodbye to my short-lived eyelash extensions =( So much for causing jie to pay over 100bucks for it and it only lasted for 1 week (and one day). Sigh.

I've read/heard so many people rave about getting eyelash extensions but how come no one complains about its woes?!!!?!?!

Ok, to be fair, i love the fact that i wake up every morning, looking fabulous without makeup. I even enjoyed admiring my eyes in front of the mirror while brushing my teeth too in the wee hours of the morning on schooldays too! LOL. And the amount of time i saved from drawing eyeliner/brushing my lashes with mascara and what not is...pretty unbelievable. No more pessimistic "i look damn cui in school sans makeup" thoughts!

However...the route to vanity comes with a price of course.
(1) Normally, I slp with a small pillow on my eyes but with the eyelash extension, i couldnt do that for fear that it might cause the lashes to come off. As a result, i couldnt slp well for the first few days =(
(2) As the lashes are being glued onto my real lashes lash-by-lash, when the root of the falsies came off, some parts of the ends might still be glued to my real lashes. Hence, in an attempt to pull out the loose strands, i realised i have to keep tugging my eyelids and real lashes and it can get quite painful =(
Dun pull out = Dangling falsies
Pull out = Painful eyelids
DILEMMA!!
(3) The fake falsies will drop off over time and i have absolutely no control over which strand will starting dropping off first. In the end, my left eye had this small little gap in the middle of my eye where a clump of lashes dropped while my right eye had a gap at the end of my eyelids. You can imagine how silly i looked -__-"
(4) Due to all the tugging and pulling, i lost some (precious) eyelashes. BIG SIGH.

All in all, it's an interesting experience even though i concluded eyelash extension is Trouble with a capital T. Jie's not experiencing all these mentioned above as bad as i did so perhaps the main problem lies with me? Oh wells.

On a lighter note, all science researchers-wanabe, WATCH THIS VIDEO!! It's mad funny and absolutely relevant to a GREAT extent. haha. You might not get it if you are not in the Science field though!

Until next time~

Simply A Whole Lot of Fun!

Saw Sally's post on our PJ party some days ago and realised "OH YA, I HAVEN BLOGGED ABT IT TOO!!" lol. Been so caught up with schoolwork and Yventually that it totally slipped my mind! Sorry this got to be a backdated post but better late than never eh? Besides, i've had a wonderful time editting the pics, reminiscing the good times we had during our 2D1N getaway!! =)
After much consideration, we decided on Studio M for the location of our girls' PJ party for its affordable price and cool studio apartment concept!!

Entered the room with much anticipation!!
Loving the wallpaper they had in the room! The only downside of the room would be its puny toilet/bathing area that are separated at 2 corners of the room near the entrance perhaps?
Nevertheless, CAMWHORING STARTS!!!!! We were damn well-prepared, with props ranging from my bunny headgear, ninjaboy toy, geeky specs and sunnies. lol. I even brought my external flash on top of my DSLR! Enthusiastic much?

Off to the pool~

As it started to drizzle afterwhich, we headed back to our room for some..Cluedo-loving!

Mich's Cluedo set was REALLY old-school! And let's just say playing that game further confirmed we are not detective-material. We were utterly confused who killed who with what by the end of the game. haha.

Then, we called for pizzas and it was dinner time!!!!

Crazy game of "Stress" after dinner left us in high spirts. I think Sally and Mich were damn high with their "Jia you jia you" cheers after each round because we splitted into 2 groups and were competing against each other. Fun times, fun times =)

Short drinking session at the pub downstairs before we retreated back to our room for our PJ party to begin~
We went shopping for PJs weeks before our party and settled for 4 sets of PJ frm Cotton On Body with 2 identical designs so we quickly changed into our PJs for more cam-whoring!! HAHA.

Then the door suddenly came knocking and our first thought was "Shit, management's gonna complain about our noise level!!" but surprisingly, the bell boy brought up this paperbag and claimed that the pastries belonged to us?
We made the bell boy come up like THRICE to confirm the pastries really belonged to us and i asked Sally "eh, u sure ur boy didn't send u a surprise?" A call confirmed that her beau left a box of homemade fruit tarts for us at the front desk to surprise his dear gf!! Everyone say AWWWWWWW =)
I would say this PJ party/girls' getaway was one helleva blast!!! We should totally organise another one soon! So save up ladies! =P haha.
Until next time!

I need more time...

Flea market tml, Lunar New Year launch on Sun noon...AHHH, it's gona be a busy weekend for me! =(

oh wells, here are pics from my gathering with the sec school girls at Saizeriya, Liang Court! Check out the prices of the food. INSANELY CHEAP!

Food-wise, it was just alright? My hamburger steak was a tad too salty. But hey, with the kind of price, we shouldn't be too fussy right? haha. Oh, the mushroom soup did taste really rich and creamy. I could taste the mushroom bits, which i thought was awesome =)

I guess it's a good place to dine in when you have a tight budget but crave for italian/western cuisine!! Perfect for poor students, like us. hahaha.
The girls surprised me with a birthday cake from Icing Room afterwhich!! Awwww =))

Can't believe our friendship blossomed since we were only 13 years old and till now, they still remained as girls closed to my heart =) Cheers to 10 years of friendship!!!

Lastly, preview for Sunday's launch!

Until next time!

My (last) Birthday Gift of 2010!

I know i know..it's 2011 now but i still got to blog about my last birthday gift of 2010!! hahaha. As i didn't have time to meet Jie for my birthday last month, she booked a eyelash extension slot at Browhaus with me yesterday as a birthday gift for me =D

As some of you have already known, i hate putting on falsies because of my clumsy hands. Hence, apart from Yventually's photoshoots, i rarely go out with fake eyelashes so I was excited about yesterday's session!!

Jie was really nice to pick the "lash-by-lash" method for me so the effect wouldn't be too dramatic for school and more natural-looking =)

See the difference!!

Wheeeeee~ For now, i doubt i need to spend time coating my lashes with mascara and lining my eyelids with eyeliner!! =)

The cons of this session? My fake lashes will start dropping out by strands (slowly, that is) and sometimes, it will drop into my eyes which can be pretty disturbing.

Oh, and the session took 1hour so it was supposedly a perfect chance for me to catch a wink on Browhaus's comfy chair but guess what, i JERKED while falling aslp and scared the shit out of my therapist! HAHAHAHAHAHA. Embarassing much -__-"

Ok, this is me with no eye makeup:

Until next time~

My new toy!

After what seems like forever, my camera finally arrived!!! =D Reserved it at the camera shop Dad always frequent a week before i left for BKK but it took so long for their next shipment to arrive. However, the wait is worthwhile after i viewed my first batch of photos i took!!

In case you are still wondering what camera i got myself...It's a Canon S95!!

I've heard/read so much about this camera (as well as its predecessor S90) so it wasn't such a hard decision to make in picking a digital camera for myself =) Thanks to the various groups of friends who sponsored me as part of my birthday gift, I only had to fork out around $300 for this new toy of mine!! *jumps ard*

Been toying around with this gadget for the past 2 days in school as well as at my gathering at TeoHeng and I'm awed.

Here are some pictures i took, sans photoshop effects!!!

Awesome macro pics:

On a sidenote, are you loving my red leopard prints nails i did in BKK? hehehe.

Cool color filter effects:

Beautiful BEAUTIFUL picture quality (giving me more reasons to camwhore. lol):

I've always have problem shooting in the dark using my DSLR because of my shaky hands so i ended up with poor quality BLURRED photos but this camera does wonders even under low light conditions:

Taken on the streets of Katong today under minimal lightings at 9pm? Mad loving the clarity of the pic!!!

Ok, shall do a proper post next time so until then, tata!!

Dichan Pay Baan Leow!

Just got back from Bangkok a few days ago with 2 of my craziest polymates!! =) We had alot of fun eating, shopping, HTHT-ing and braving the roads on the tuktuks! HAHA.

As this was meant to be a personal shopping trip, i didn't bring along my camera so all photos are taken randomly using my iphone =P The most enjoyable part of my trip? Speaking to the locals in my (broken) thai! My acaarn (teacher) once said the best way to improve on a new language is to practise practise practise! I couldn't agree more~

A&W Curly Fries!

The adorable Shih Tzu we saw at Chatuchak! Khaw chii Tinker kah. (His name is Tinker)

You can't go BKK without eating Swensens because the ice cream there is SOOOOOOO cheap.

Beautifully pedicured feet!

And i lugged a big box of Krispy Kreme home for my family too~ The yummylicious glazed donuts are to die for. Glad we queued for them though the queue was pretty horrendous, i've got to admit.

Was walking past a roadside stall when i saw this book lying in the midst of many other rejected books on the floor. Even though it was rejected by the bookstore (that starts with a capital letter K) due to its slightly damaged cover, the pages inside are squeaky clean and brand-new. At just S$8, i knew i had to grab it =)

One of the day's buy. As you can see, it's damn pathetic =( Only the cardigan and calculator were mine. The 2 anime dolls belonged to my Jap-crazy brother btw. I had a hard time figuring out who is who at the anime store in Chinatown, BKK so i got fed-up and grabbed 2 dolls that i assumed he would like. LOL. Guess what, i "guessed" correctly. Hur hur. So smart right. It's ironic how i never agreed to his obsession with cosplaying and whatnot and there I was, adding on to his crazy dolls/figurines collection -__-"

Oh, and check out my ever-growing rings collection! LOL. I bet i bought enough rings for both my hands AND feet during this trip. HAHAHA.

Cant wait to return to the Land of Smiles soon! Hopefully, next time round, we have Cheryl and Mich to join us too!! ;)

Until next time!

My AWESOME Xmas!

Long post today before i leave for the LAND OF SMILES aka Bangkok tml with my dear friends!! So mad excited because i've been restraining myself from doing any shopping for the past 3 weeks~ So for today's post, just sit back, relax (and salivate at any food porn collages, if any) and smile!! haha.

Xmas Eve

My Xmas eve was spent at Yan Palace, HongLim Complex. It's a really authentic chinese restaurant that serves dimsum to satisfy the cravings of Michelle's because she's been "held up" in Auzzie-land for a tad too long =P

Some of the dim-sum we ordered. The most interesting dish being the "banana fritters with PRAWNS"! It tasted like a queer combination of sweet and salty. Sh and Sally loved them, though it's my least fave dish that day. I'm more of a sweet/sour person eh. haha.

Food tasted alright in my opinion, but the company was awesomeeeee. Having Mich back with us during our outings once again has never been better =) It beats talking to her on MSN hands down for sure! ;)

Xmas Day

My jolly Xmas started with a family gathering at my grandma's. Till now, Im still amazed at how Mum kept everyone in the family together despite the loss of my granny for years. She never fails to gather everyone at granny's every weekend (i repeat: Every weekend.) and i guess that's how the family remained a close-knitted one. It's the same over at my paternal side and many times, i feel proud to tell people how everyone in the extended family has been there for one another in so many occasions. I've never been close to my mum but this quality of hers is something I've never fail to recognise.

Ok, back to my Xmas gathering. haha. Pizzas, chicken wings, tzi cha were part of the menu that day, filled with the shoutings of the kids. I felt old that day. hahaha.

All the kids were overly-excited about the lucky draw Mum came up with but were only left disappointed when they realised despite the differences in the gift sizes, they all contained the same Xmas gift - water bottle for the new school term. HAHAHA. Much thanks to my "superb" wrapping skills, everyone was tricked =P

Rushed home to rest before mtg theBF and his gang for a Xmas steamboat dinner! The pictures said it all =)

Did you enjoy urself this Xmas? I love this festive season!!

Until next time~
